Synergy Services has long provided shelter, safety, and support for at-risk individuals and families. This new transitional housing campus expands that mission, offering a place to help families heal, find employment and childcare, and gain the emotional and physical strength to start over.

DRAW’s design of a multi-unit residential complex helps support occupants’ transition into independence by providing apartments that ensure residents’ physical safety and security in ways that also provide emotional support. This “design as therapy” approach will mitigate noise from adjacent homes and highways and utilize natural light to enhance the everyday experience. Existing skylights were preserved to bring daylight deep into the dwelling units, while exterior solar shading fins filter light into the corridors, balancing brightness and privacy.

The new construction draws from the language of the original sawtooth roof, connecting past and present. Careful orientation, thermal buffering, and landscape edges promote comfort, efficiency, and well-being. The architecture reflects Synergy’s commitment to creating safe, supportive environments that foster growth and independence.
