DRAW was part of a national team of consultants designing the new one-million-square-foot Terminal for The Kansas City International Airport (KCI).

Led by architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), the terminal expands the original 1972 airport’s capacities with 39 new gates, retail space, and outdoor waiting areas. To align with the city’s sustainability goals, the airport obtained LEED Gold certification.

DRAW had an integral role in designing the interior architecture at KCI as well as assisting and coordinating engineering services for the site.

  • Provided design services for the interior architecture associated with public spaces
  • Assisted the larger design team with the production of architectural drawings
  • Participated in/led design presentations to the ownership group
  • Coordinated consultant/engineering services
  • Coordinated responses to ownership comments regarding interior architecture
  • Provided review of submittals and responses to RFIs for interior architecture
  • Led LEED sustainability charrettes and established criteria for the initial project sustainability plan
  • Reviewed potential solar PV sites and the capacity of site locations
  • Delivered design and detailing of parking entry and egress gates
