The Kansas City Quilt Museum will be the new home for quilting in the region, building off of the museum experience of it’s contemporaries found in the Missouri Quilt Museum in Hamilton, MO (the quilting capital of the world!), International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, NE, and National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY, and the passion of our client, who has been working behind the scenes for years to bring this project to life.

This 40,000 sqft museum will house roughly 13,000 sqft of gallery space, a museum and retail quilt supply store to support community classrooms and quilting workshops, as well as administrative and quilt collection storage areas.  A colorful “flying geese” tile grid pattern inset into precast concrete panels with a quilted stitchwork pattern etched onto the surface alludes to the history of quilting in the region, wrap the facade and brings the museum’s programmatic theme out into the public realm.

This project is currently on the boards at DRAW, and planned to infill the corner of Stave Avenue and N 94^th Street in Kansas City, KS.
