Pendleton ArtsBlock is an environmentally friendly, innovative, mixed-income, mixed-use development in Kansas City’s Pendleton Heights neighborhood and one of the phases of the Paseo Gateway CHOICE Neighborhoods revitalization initiative. Pendleton ArtsBlock will be a hub for the artist community that is already in place throughout the Historic Northeast. It will also serve as a high-quality residential option for market rate and affordable renters with a preference for artists and Chouteau Courts public housing residents.
Pendleton ArtsBlock will be a 40,326 square foot building comprised of studio, one and two bedroom apartment units, artist workshop spaces and community gathering spaces. In addition, through a partnership with the Charlotte Street Foundation, it will include a number of stART up tenant spaces facing Independence Avenue. These spaces will house artist-run entrepreneurial start up businesses.
Envisioned as a dynamic and creative place that is reflective of those living and working within it, the ground level stART up tenant spaces will largely be transparent to invite pedestrians and vehicles along Independence Ave. to interact with the building. They will act as a ‘front porch’ entry that will engage and receive the community around it. In addition to artist spaces, there is a multi–use space located at the corner of Park Ave. and Independence Ave. that will serve as a gathering place for all community members.
